How to Enable bin_log in AWS RDS

How to Enable bin_log in AWS RDS
To enable binary logs in RDS, you need to activate automated backups. Once automated backups are enabled, RDS will automatically activate binary logs to support PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery) and replication.
Here are the steps:
Enable Automated Backups:
- Go to the RDS console.
- Select the relevant DB instance.
- Click the Modify button.
- In the backup options, enable the Enable automated backups option. Set the Backup Retention Period. If this value is greater than 0, automated backups will be enabled.
Restart the DB Instance:
- Save the changes and restart the DB instance. Once automated backups are enabled, RDS will automatically activate log_bin. Although this is not directly visible to the user, binary logs are internally enabled.
Additional Considerations
- In RDS, you cannot finely control binary log settings, as they are only used for replication and PITR.
- If you require full control, consider setting up MySQL directly on an EC2 instance.
Given these limitations in the AWS RDS environment, you may need to either configure MySQL on an EC2 instance for full control or use the built-in features of RDS to address your needs.
How to check MySQL Configuration Values (SHOW VARIABLES)
To check the configured variables in MySQL, you can use the SHOW VARIABLES command.
SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'log_bin';
log_bin ON
Please refer to the guide document below for MySQL CDC configuration!
